Overview
Nepal is a neighbouring country, and many Indian families consider it for MBBS because of its closeness. We have not been able to verify any special arrangement for Indian students in Nepal in the NMC notices we read. Unless the NMC says otherwise in writing, the general rules apply: a minimum of 54 months of study, English medium, a 12-month internship in the same institution, and the licensing screening test on return. Families should ask the NMC and the institution in writing whether any Nepal-specific condition applies, rather than rely on what an agent says.

Rules and regulations in Nepal
- Admission requirements are set by each university and college. Expect Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology and an entrance process, and confirm the current notice for the session you apply to.
- Ask the college in writing what entry, residence or registration formalities apply to an Indian student, and read the Indian Embassy and MEA advisories for Nepal.
- Teaching is usually in English, but patients speak Nepali and other local languages, so learning basic Nepali helps in clinical years. Ask how the college supports this.
- Medical education in Nepal is overseen by Nepali bodies such as the Nepal Medical Council and the affiliating university. Ask the college to show its current affiliation for the batch you would join.
- Foreign graduates may have to register with the Nepal Medical Council to practise in Nepal. Ask the college and the Council what applies to you.
- Ask whether any part of the course is taught online, and whether the NMC rules allow it. Clinical training must be in person.
- Colleges here are affiliated to universities that award the degree, so the name on the degree and transcript matters. Ask to see a sample.
- NEET UG qualification is needed for Indian students going abroad for MBBS under the NMC rules. Check the current notice.
After MBBS: the next steps
- To practise in India, a foreign medical graduate must pass the screening test required by NMC, as notified at the time. Check the current name and rules on the NMC website.
- The NMC rules also require a compulsory supervised internship where it has not been completed as they require. Check what applies to you.
- Registration with the NMC or the relevant State Medical Council follows, before you can practise in India.
- For postgraduate study in India, NEET PG is the entrance route. Check the current eligibility notice.
- Nepal has its own postgraduate programmes. Whether foreign students can join, and on what terms, must be confirmed with the university and the Nepal Medical Council.
- International exams such as USMLE, PLAB and AMC are options only. Check eligibility with their own authorities.

What is the minimum course length under NMC rules?
The NMC FAQ states a minimum of 54 months of study, plus a 12-month internship in the same foreign institution.

No. The NMC FAQ says the course and internship must be in the same foreign institution, and a separate supervised internship in India is also required for licensing.
Is a licensing test required in India?
Yes. The NMC requires the screening test, the National Exit Test or another test it mandates. Check the current name and pattern in NMC notices.
Is there a special rule for Nepal because of the open border?
We could not verify any such rule in the NMC notices. Ask the NMC and the institution in writing.
Do I still need NEET for Nepal?
The NMC expects Indian students to have qualified NEET UG. Check the current rule on the NMC site.
Is there a time limit for finishing the course?
The NMC FAQ states the course must be completed within ten years from the date of joining.
Does this site promise admission or licensing?
No. We give guidance only; the decision rests with the university and the NMC.
Do you guarantee admission or licensing outcomes?
No. Admission is decided by the university and licensing by the relevant authority. We verify, explain and support; we do not promise outcomes.
